Ground Turkey Taco Meat

Ground Turkey for Tacos

I've been using ground turkey in most recipes that call for ground beef (except burgers) and it's always good. All ground turkey isn't good though. I typically look for organic variety and it's important to season the meat really well. This recipe is perfect for tacos and nachos and is quick and easy to make.

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 3 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1- 2 tsp cayenne
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • lime juice from 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 3-4 tbsp oil for saute

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add ground turkey.
  2. Season with first 4 seasonings and break up meat with a spatula.
  3. Once meat is mostly cooked through, add cumin, chili powder, cayenne and cook for 1-2 minutes to toast spices.
  4. Add onion and garlic and saute 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add water and bring to a simmer. Lower heat and cook until most of the water has evaporated.
  6. Add ketchup and lime juice and stir to combine
  7. Turn off heat and add to corn or flour tortillas for tacos or nachos!
